Introducing Nasir Ali Panhwar: A Trailblazer in the Development Sector

Under our series of PUAN Eco Warriors, meet Nasir Ali Panhwar, a remarkable individual with over two decades of experience in the development sector. Currently contributing his expertise to the World Bank-supported Sindh Resilience Project, Panhwar’s journey reflects his unwavering commitment to positive change.

With a Master’s degree in Sociology, Panhwar is a Fellow of the LEAD Programme and was a participant in the IVLP-2010. His career path is marked by transformative contributions that have left a lasting impact.

During his eight-year tenure (2000-2008) with IUCN – The World Conservation Union, Panhwar played a pivotal role in shaping the development landscape. He was instrumental in creating the Sindh State of Environment & Development (SoED) report and the Sindh Strategy for Sustainable Development, both of which were pioneering initiatives in the history of Sindh. His dedication also extended to developing the Badin District’s vision for development and a comprehensive five-year education plan.

Panhwar’s journey continued with his role as the Programme Coordinator for WWF’s Indus for All Programme (2008-2012), focused on preserving the rich biodiversity of the Indus eco-region. His expertise further shone as the Regional Program Manager for the USAID-funded Agribusiness Project.

A prolific writer, Panhwar has penned numerous pieces on social, developmental, climate change, and environmental issues. His commitment doesn’t stop at his professional pursuits – he is also the Founder General Secretary of Friends of Indus Forum, a Council Member of Hisaar Foundation, a Member of the General Body of Thardeep, and the Founder Executive Director of the Centre for Environment Development.

In recognition of his impactful work, Panhwar received the prestigious Best Story Award on Climate Change by CPNE/UNDP on October 18, 2017, in Islamabad. This award is a testament to his dedication to raising awareness about vital issues.

Nasir Ali Panhwar’s journey is a testament to the power of dedication, vision, and unwavering commitment in the field of development. His contributions continue to inspire positive change and shape a better future.
