The North Punjab Chapter of the Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) recently organized a series of events and activities at Sargodha University Agriculture College in Sargodha to commemorate International Environment Day. The objective of this initiative was to raise awareness about climate change’s impact on agriculture and promote environmental conservation. The event, which included a seminar, a walk, and a plantation drive, was meticulously planned and executed by dedicated PUAN Executive Board members and supported by esteemed speakers.
Dr. Asam Riaz, Adeel Raza, Amir Ali, and Youth Group Director Syeda Ailia Bokhari, all members of the PUAN Executive Board, took the lead in organizing an enlightening seminar. The focus of the seminar was to shed light on critical environmental issues. Prof. Dr. Aftab Wajid, with his extensive expertise, delivered an impactful lecture on climate change and its detrimental effects on crops. He emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change in agricultural practices. Additionally, Prof. Dr. Muzamil passionately discussed the hazards of plastic pollution and its widespread consequences.
Dr. Salma Umber, President of the North Punjab Chapter, delivered a thought-provoking keynote address during the event. She elaborated on PUAN’s aims and objectives, emphasizing the significance of actively addressing climate change and the challenges it poses. Dr. Umber underscored the need for collective efforts to combat climate change and promote sustainable practices.
To acknowledge the invaluable contributions made by the speakers and organizers, Prof. Ather, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Sciences, presented certificates and tokens of appreciation. This gesture recognized the diligent work and dedication exhibited by those involved in organizing the climate change workshop.
Awareness Walk and Plantation Drive: In a show of solidarity and commitment, students, faculty members, and NP leadership actively participated in an awareness walk focused on climate change. This walk served as an educational platform to enlighten participants and the wider community about pressing environmental issues. Additionally, a plantation drive was held to symbolize the collective responsibility to protect and restore our natural surroundings.
