Heaps of Garbage to Tons of Hope

Heaps of Garbage to Tons of Hope

Meet our very accomplished Fulbright Alumnus Mr. Salman Tariq, who has been working for more than 10 years on projects related to sustainable living and solid waste management.
Mr. Salman started his career with job at K-Electric in 2009 and worked on a project related to Pakistan’s largest Cattle Colony which had resulted in an immense environmental catastrophe; brown waterfalls polluting the sea. He worked on this project for over 4 years trying to make feasibility for converting this waste into power. It was because of his motivation and dedication towards the field, he pursued his graduate studies in clean energy and completed his Masters in Public Administration (MPA) in Energy & Environment from Columbia University through the Fulbright program.
Upon his return in 2017, Mr. Salman co-founded Davaam (www.dvm.com.pk) which aims to promote environmental services, particularly reducing wastage in society. The mission of Davaam is to make sustainable living the “norm” rather than the perceived “luxury”, by reusing, reducing, and recycling. Another achievement of Davaam includes repurposing waste collected from homes, schools, and offices by segregating recyclables & converting organic waste into compost which has now grown to tons of waste collection per day.
To tackle the issue of growing waste, Mr. Salman has also launched ‘Davaam Life’, a store that promotes sustainable living while it also manages waste reduction by refilling containers brought by people rather than using new plastic bottles or boxes. For the packaged products, the company incentivizes people to bring back empty bottles for discounts. Other projects by Davaam include home-based water mineralization, air purifiers, solar lights as well as environment-friendly products such as biodegradable cutlery, reusable feminine hygiene products.
Recently, Mr. Salman also published his article related to sustainable waste solutions in Tribune which can be accessed via https://tribune.com.pk/…/solutiustainable-waste….
We are proud to have him as a member and wish Mr. Salman the best of luck for all his future endeavours, and his contributions towards making a sustainable living.
