In a celebration of achievement and empowerment, the ASG project “Girl With a Camera” led by Wagma Feroz unfurled its wings, showcasing the awe-inspiring journey of sixteen budding female filmmakers from the Swat region. Guided by their artistic vision, these women embarked on a transformative odyssey that resonated far beyond the valleys they call home. The culmination of their efforts was a captivating screening event held in Islamabad, a testament to their dedication to gender equality and the magic of video storytelling.

Stepping onto the path of cinematic expression, these talented filmmakers proved to be agents of change, bravely challenging societal norms and amplifying the voices of women. Mr. Kelly Ryan, Public Diplomacy Officer, U.S. Embassy, Islamabad lauded the work of aspiring filmmakers as it encapsulated diversity of perspectives and captivated the audience eager to engage with their narratives.

What made this endeavor even more remarkable was the unwavering support by U.S. Mission in Pakistan. This grant provided the solid foundation upon which this triumph was built. With its backing, intensive training, mentorship, and a much-needed platform were extended to these exceptional women from Swat. Rarely do such golden opportunities arise for them to shine, and this initiative made it possible for their voices to reverberate louder and farther.

The Islamabad screening event was the grand culmination, where a diverse tapestry of individuals gathered. Academics, media representatives, and people from various walks of life came together, united by a shared interest in gender empowerment and the power of storytelling. The room buzzed with fervent discussions, bridging gaps and fostering understanding, all sparked by the evocative stories presented on screen.

As the curtain fell on the screening event, it marked the beginning of a new chapter. The “Girl With a Camera” project by Wagma Feroz has not only given a voice to those whose stories that often remain untold but have also paved the way for a future where the transformative power of storytelling and gender equality walk hand in hand. It stood as a testament to what can be achieved when passion, opportunity, and empowerment align.
