Adnan Riaz, Team Left No Stone Unturned in Helping Flood Victims

Unprecedented climate catastrophe across Pakistan forced tens of thousands of people out of their homes overnight. Videos have emerged showing the heart-wrenching predicament of the flood victims as recent floods have left a trail of destruction in Swat where a hill station Madyan is awash in suffering. Madyan has not received any kind of assistance to date. Adnan Riaz, our English Works alumnus as well as Exchange Ambassador, along with his team left no stone unturned in coming forward and helping flood affectees of Madyan.

Adnan Riaz along with his team gathered tarpals, mosquito nets, mineral water, and ration packs (worth Rs. 4800 each) and reached Madyan. “We set off on our mission to reach Madyan and to help affectees in their time of need. Upon reaching there, everything was devastated. The area which was a beautiful hill station was reduced to debris, surrounded by water on all four sides. All the bridges that connect Madyan to the mainland were thrashed by the flood. The residents were in poor conditions, living under makeshift shelters, without anything to eat or drink. Even the makeshift shelters and the places where they were made [to stay] were not stable. The ground was cracked and unstable. It was heartbreaking,” shared Adnan.

Hungry and helpless; Madyan flood victims were waging a battle they couldn’t win alone. Therefore, these PUAN flood warriors decided to provide them cooked food and establish medical camps for them. Ten medical camps have been implemented in different neighborhoods and more are in pipeline. Moreover, with the help of the local team of that area and the district government, over 400 people have been served food and water. Sixty-two ration packs have been distributed to those who were desperately in need. A call for help has been made to those who can help us in this time of need. If nothing is done, many more lives will be lost and much more damage will be done because a new wave of flood has been predicted to hit Madyan and its nearby areas. “We are doing the best we can and doing what is in our power to help our brothers. Let’s help all those people who are in dire need of our support,” Adnan.
