The U.S. Consulate in Lahore hosted the popular Lahore-based television channel City42 for a program featuring the Fulbright program. Consulate staff focused on the importance of Fulbright in building and expanding relationships between Americans and Pakistanis, while an educational advisor with the United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) answered questions about the application process, how the USEFP supports the Fulbright program, and encouraged the audience to apply before the May 2013 deadline. Two Fulbright alumni shared candid stories about their experiences in American universities and exploring the United States, enthusiastically encouraging viewers to seek opportunities to travel and study in America. City42 will broadcast this bilingual English and Urdu language interview on March 23, and the channel is eager to produce more shows to increase audiences’ awareness of opportunities for further education in the United States.
The Consulate also hosted 32 students and faculty members from the Punjab for a seminar about Fulbright scholarship programs and GRE test preparation. This dynamic session highlighted Fulbright history and Pakistan’s distinction as one of the world’s largest Fulbright programs. EducationUSA advisors from PAS Lahore and USEFP conducted presentations followed by an interactive discussion.
On March 12, the U.S. Embassy Islamabad-produced radio program “Tea Time with U.S.” featured guests from USEFP and a Fulbright program alumna, who spent the entire hour answering questions from the radio audience about the Fulbright program. Many of the call-in questions came from prospective students who are working to meet the May 15 application deadline. FM99, the radio station that hosts the show, said they were overwhelmed by calls after a February 12 show highlighting Fulbright and asked for another Fulbright session.
