PUAN South Punjab Chapter recently hosted a one-day seminar on climate change and its prevention. The event featured a lineup of speakers who shared their insights on the urgent need for action.
President Mahfooz Ahmad kicked off the event by discussing the importance of the Country Project and why this activity is so crucial. He highlighted the importance of coming together as a community to address the climate crisis.
Mr. Hameed Akhtar, Assistant Director Environment Multan, followed with a talk on climate justice, adaptation, and mitigation. He stressed the importance of taking action to address the root causes of climate change, as well as adapting to the impacts that are already being felt.
Ms. Shumaila Mustafa, a Lecturer at NUML Multan, spoke about how young people can play a role in reducing their carbon footprint. She encouraged attendees to make small changes in their daily lives, such as recycling, using public transportation, and conserving energy.
Mr. Aamir Nawaz, Chairman of the Department of Horticulture at BZU Multan, shared his insights on the challenges and opportunities posed by climate change. He emphasized the importance of sustainable development and working to protect our natural resources.
Lastly, Mr. Sultan Mahmood, Provincial Coordinator of the National Humanitarian Network NHN, spoke about the importance of SDG 13: Climate Action. He stressed the need for all countries to work together to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Following the seminar, attendees planted trees as a way to take action against climate change. This was a small but significant step towards creating a more sustainable future.
