Millions of people have been displaced across Pakistan as recent floods have ravaged a third of the country. Many non-governmental organizations are working hard to provide relief to those impacted by the calamity. Roshan Pakistan, a charity that provides education and healthcare, has been providing frontline relief since the floods began. The organization is founded by Humaira Bachal, our Emerging Leaders of Pakistan program alumna.
Humaira’s organization is committed to helping vulnerable Sindh and Balochistan in these challenging times. These worst floods have displaced more than 33 million people in Pakistan since mid-June. She has actively been participating in Sindh and Balochistan flood relief campaigns through her organization. Roshan Pakistan Academy, Karachi has set up camp 55km from Badin, near Tharparkar. Women, kids & elderly persons in temporary settlements are in desperate need of immediate attention like food, milk, and medical check-ups.
The relief operation includes setting up medical camps, and emergency kitchens, holding ration distribution drives and providing first aid to the affected. She and her team had confirmed dengue cases after testing displaced people in a camp on the outskirts of Karachi. Humaira Bachal and her team is working tirelessly to help the flood victims in this health catastrophe unfolding before us.
