Ms. Monica Medina- Special Envoy for Biodiversity and Water Resources, visited Pakistan and was joined by Andrew Schofer, Deputy Chief of Mission for a dinner reception. The meet-up was also attended by members of Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network’s and other Embassy and PUAN attendees. The event showcased two documentaries – K-2 Cleanup Expedition and Climate Migration, produced by PUAN ASG’s, followed by a Q&A session with Ms. Monica Medina. During the interaction, Ms. Monica appreciated the initiatives and lauded the efforts of Mr. Shamshad Hussain and Jawad Sharif in raising awareness regarding climate change through these documentaries.
Ms. Monica was in Pakistan for three days during mid-March, where she participated in the U.S.-Pakistan Climate and Environment Working Group addressing climate and environmental issues of concern, including climate smart agriculture, water management, air quality, conservation, and plastic pollution. While in Pakistan, Special Envoy Medina interacted with government counterparts, private sector, and civil society stakeholders to strengthen support for actions that tackle the biodiversity crisis, build resilience to impacts of the climate crisis, elevate women in STEM, advance clean energy goals, and enhance science and technology cooperation.
