Amir Shahab is our International Visitors Leadership Program, ‘Disability Rights’ alumnus (2013). Amir has been associated with differently-abled people for three decades. He started his career as an assistant teacher and now he heads the rehabilitation center. “There has never been a day that has gone by without thanking God for giving me this honor of being a part of the journey with these delightful people,” shared Amir.
Amir has been associated with the alumni network for years exchanging expertise and most importantly cultural diversity that brings alumni closer to one another. “It is the inclusion of this multiplicity that has given me the insight to integrate best practices.” In Pakistan, there was a dearth of skill training for the special people who went untrained and lived an unimpactful life. But Karachi Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) rehabilitates them not only in vocational and technical skills with adaptive academics and therapies, but the sports program the Centre implement has turned their rehabilitation 360 degrees.
“I have been extensively involved in the outreach rehab for the differently abled bringing them to school after extensive family counseling. KVTC holds 1870 national and international medals and has placed 400 special people on jobs.
Amir Shahab feels honored to be part of this prestigious network that recognizes and celebrates professions and professionals. “I invite my fellow alumni to visit me in Pakistan and join us in this soulful journey. Lighting up someone’s life has been akin to lighting up my soul.” Amir.
