Muhammad Hussain Jan is our ‘English Works’ alumnus. He is a student of English Literature and Applied Linguistics. He is basically from the most deprived but richest in culture and historical area Landikotal, District Khyber. According to him, being a resident of such an area, one cannot know about different opportunities provided by the U.S., but Hussain personally believes in hard and smart work and this belief goes stronger when he got into the English Works Program and employability skills Program funded by the US Consulate, RELO Pakistan with the collaboration of IM Sciences University Peshawar.
The US-funded exchange programs have a huge impact on Pakistani Students and professionals in building their future but the US-funded in-country programs like ‘Access’ and ‘English Works’ also bring a sea change in their participants via academics and professionalism.
Being a resident of Landikotal, my goal was to go for engineering and earn, but when I got into the ‘English Works’ program, this expose me to the world that needs energetic and young leaders to enlighten society with their skills and switched my mind to work with many organizations as a volunteer for the betterment of the society.
“I worked with KSNWO, DOSTI, and IOM and did many activities such as Iftar Dastarkhwan, plantation drives, awareness sessions, stage competitions, and most importantly social action projects in my community. I am still engaged in a PUAN summer internship program at FATA University under the mentorship of Prof. Jahanzeb Khan (Ph.D.). I also applied for ASG to contribute more to my community. I am thankful to the US Embassy, RELO Pakistan, US Consulate, and PUAN for providing opportunities and motivating us to work for the betterment of our communities,” shared Hussain.
