Fulbright Talks – Usama Khawar

Every year, hundreds of laborers across Pakistan lose their lives due to the incurable occupational disease, Silicosis. Fulbright alumnus Usama Khawar has been the driving force behind the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Supreme Court of Pakistan on behalf of the victims. The litigation resulted in wide-ranging administrative, regulatory, and legislative changes to strengthen Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) mechanisms in Pakistan and enact the Punjab Occupational Safety & Health Act 2019.
Apart from his private practice, Khawar extensively engages in pro bono PIL on behalf of the marginalized section of the society, especially the laborers and the victims of the criminal justice system.
Khawar completed his LLM degree from Columbia Law School on the Fulbright Program in 2018.
