From Sand Dunes of Umerkot to Recipient of the Best Researcher Award at NED University, Dr. Krishan’s story is undoubtedly an inspiring one! Dr. Krishan Lal Khatri received a Fulbright Ph.D. Scholarship in 2012 for pursuing the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas. He completed his degree in 2017 and resumed working at NED University of Engineering and Technology in the faculty of Electrical Engineering. During the last five years, he has authored and co-authored over ten research papers on various aspects of Electrical Engineering, Energy and Environment, and Machine Learning for Health Informatics that are published in High Impact Factor International Journals.
He is currently leading a Fulbright Pakistan/USEFP-funded project titled Engineering Soft Skills Training for Engineering Graduates to Meet Employment Challenges.
In 2022, Dr. Khatri received the Best Researcher Award from NED University for publishing three research articles in high-impact factor journals listed in Clarivate Analytics’ Journal Citation Report with Science Citation Index.
He is also a member of Pak-US Alumni Network’s Special Interest Group in Energy and Environment. He is also volunteering with IEEE Inc. USA, Karachi Chapter as Executive Committee Member and Chair New Initiatives Committee.
Dr. Krishan Lal Khatri belongs to an underdeveloped region of Sindh, Umerkot District. He had his initial schooling in his hometown Umerkot in Government Schools with Sindhi as the medium of instruction. He studied up to 12th grade in the same town in a government school and college and completed his B.E (Electrical) from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology. He worked with Pakistan Telecommunication Company as Engineer and then as Senior Engineer and played a leading role in the installation of the first largest DSL network in Karachi during 2008-2010. He later switched to academia and joined NED University as Assistant Professor, where he received a Fulbright Scholarship in 2011.
Dr. Khatri is grateful to the Fulbright Commission and USEFP for providing him the opportunity to pursue his Ph.D. at the state-of-the-art laboratory, known as the Quality of Life Technology Lab at UT Dallas.
