An alumni project supported by the U.S. State Department’s Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) helped promote women’s political empowerment in advance of Pakistan’s May 11 national elections.  Participating women hailed from disadvantaged areas of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and sessions focused on the importance and process of voting for women from low education and socio-economic backgrounds.  Since its inception in 2011, the project has benefited 100 female legislators in national and provincial assemblies, 10,000 female undergraduate students, and 1,000 stay-at-home women.
