Achievements of Pakistan’s Trans Activism Reach Texas U.S.

Uzma Yaqoob, our IVLP alumna for 2017, recently gave a talk at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas on the topic of “Transgender Activism in #Pakistan“. Her talk covered the journey of the transgender rights movement in Pakistan and the contributions made by her organization, Forum for Dignity Initiatives, to uphold the rights of transgender people in the country since 2013. Uzma also highlighted the importance of allies in amplifying the voices of transgender people and protecting their rights. She emphasized the need for cross-movement solidarity and intersectional approaches to counter the challenges posed by patriarchy. The talk was well-attended by students and faculty from various social science departments, and it provided an opportunity to reflect on the current situation facing transgender persons in Texas. We’re proud of Uzma’s resilience and passion for upholding dignity for all.
