English Works Program Opened New Doors of Opportunities for Anas!

Under our ‘Celebrations of 75 Years of U.S.-Pak Bilateral Ties’, today we are going to share with you all an inspiring story of our alumnus from South Punjab named Anas Nawaz. Anas is currently pursuing his higher degree in Media Studies from a prestigious institute. Back in 2019, Anas qualified for ‘The English for Workforce Development in Pakistan Program’ commonly known as ‘English Works’ sponsored by the U.S. Mission to Pakistan. Little did he know at that time that this exchange program was going to be beginning of a new era in his life.

Prior to getting selected for this program, Anas used to feel a strong desire to improve his English language skills which got materialized when fortune blessed him with this excellent opportunity to fulfil his desire. This program had a profound and lasting impact on his personality. Anas gained enough confidence to even contest for the position of ‘Exchange Ambassador’ in PUAN’s previous General Elections.

Anas attributes his selection as one of the 40 mentees across Pakistan for PUAN’s Summer Internship Program again to his participation in English Works Program. He believes that the mock interviews of English Works Program provided him an ideal way to practice real job interviews. With his regular and dedicated efforts, Anas kept improving his writing and speaking skills to an extent that he even worked with PTV Lahore, Radio Pakistan Lahore and DGPR after successful interviews.

After staying involved in a few volunteer activities, Anas even started community service here in Pakistan as well after returning from the United States. He started doing virtual and physical sessions to make students aware about the importance of various Exchange Programs. Two students from remote area of Pakistan who never knew about U.S. government funded Exchange Programs qualified for English Access Micro Scholarship Program and Professional Development for Novice English Teachers Program through sincere efforts of Anas.

‘English Works program has truly expanded my perspective’, believes Anas. The program grew his mental faculties and provided him with an intelligent sense of direction that he was also elected as a President of a student association aimed to promote mutual respect, leadership, education, and career counselling.

Anas has become highly enthusiastic in making himself more brilliant and shinning individual to work for society’s welfare and we truly wish best of luck for his future.
