Joining PUAN Chapters: In accordance with the U.S. Department of State’s definition of international exchange alumni, all Pakistanis who are current or past participants of qualifying U.S. government-sponsored people-to-people exchanges are eligible to join PUAN and its chapters. The alumni must meet the following three criteria:
- An Exchange: Content that includes elements of U.S. education, culture, and values.
- Substantive: Significant U.S. government investment (one week or more in person, or 40 hours or more virtually).
- Interactive: Involves interactive, people-to-people participation – not just conference attendance.
- Pursuant to the above, alumni of some in-country programs also are eligible, including alumni of the Regional English Language Office (RELO) in country programs, the English Access Microscholarship Program, English Works and others.
Chapters Geographical Formation: For an effective outreach and alumni engagements, PUAN currently has fourteen local alumni chapters across Pakistan that includes Central Punjab, North Punjab, South Punjab, Quetta, Gwadar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Karachi, Sukkur, Jamshoro, Islamabad-Rawalpindi, North AJK, South AJK, Gilgit and Baltistan.
Local Chapters Composition: Each local chapter shall be led by a four-member alumni volunteer leadership team elected on a biennial basis by registered PUAN chapter members. Each chapter leadership team is comprised of a President, a Vice President, a Youth Group Director, and an Exchange Ambassador. An additional 15 to 20 alumni core committee members from within each chapter help the leadership teams in planning small to large-scale events, projects, and engagements. Each chapter leadership team is able to form its own core committee. Chapter members are eligible to join their chapter’s closed Facebook group after registering with PUAN.
National Executive Committee Composition: The elected leadership of each chapter becomes part of the National Executive Committee (NEC), which meets on annual basis to design, discuss and implement chapter engagement plans in close coordination and consultation with the U.S. Embassy and USEFP-PUAN. The tenures of the office holders and members of the National Executive Committee shall be two years and shall be eligible for re-election for a maximum of two terms in any designated leadership position in a local chapter.
